Samantha Scherer
Biographical Information
(American, b. 1970) Samantha Scherer is an artist working primarily in graphite and watercolor. Her intimate works on paper reference photographs of major disasters and catastrophes as well as images from films and television shows as she explores themes of loss and conflict. Scherer is particularly interested in popular media and its ability to imprint our imaginations, creating and changing histories before our eyes. Samantha Scherer studied printmaking in school, earning a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO, and an MFA from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. She has exhibited nationally, and is the recipient of 4 Artist Trust GAP grants, and was a finalist for the 2015 Betty Bowen Award. Her works have been collected by The University of Washington’s Henry Art Gallery, the City of Tacoma, Tacoma WA, the Microsoft Art Collection, Redmond WA and the City of Seattle, Seattle WA.
