Biographical Information

(American, b. 1975) Seattle based artist, Thuy-Van Vu was born in Phoenix, Arizona, months after her parents came to the United States from Vietnam as refugees. After graduating highschool, Thuy-Van moved to Maine to study art, and then transferred after a year to finish her B.F.A. in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and then an M.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Texas in Austin. Vu is the recipient of several awards and grants, including Grant for Artist Projects (GAP) grant from Artist Trust (2007), a fellowship grant from The New Foundation Seattle (2014), and a recipient of the Fell From The Sky gift (2015, 2016, 2017).

Thuy-Van Vu has exhibited in cities across the U.S. and her work is included in the collections of the City of Seattle, King County 4Culture, and Tacoma Art Museum.
