This autumn, both floors of the Museum of Northwest Art will be filled with art made by 28 artist couples who have shared creative lives. Matched Makers, guest curated by Vicki Halper, features 56 artists born between 1877 and 1983 and include many of the most prominent and admired in Northwest history. They work in all media, usually independently but sometimes paired. The exhibition puts their art in the context of their lives and shows that both complimentary and widely divergent styles are sustained by loving relationships.
Among the couples represented in Matched Makers are Gwendolen Knight and Jacob Lawrence, Barbara James and Clayton James, Gaylen Hansen and Heidi Oberheide, Robert Sperry and Patti Warashina, Robert Jones and Fay Jones, Richard Marquis and Johanna Nitzke Marquis, Sherry Markovitz and Peter Millett, Sheila Klein and Ries Niemi, John Buck and Deborah Butterfield, Leo Saul Berk and Claire Cowie, Gala Bent and Zack Bent, and Samantha Scherer and Jason Huff.
