Mark Thompson
Biographical Information
(British, b. 1972) Born Peterborough, United Kingdom, Mark Thompson has traveled to the remote and climate challenged lands of Norway, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, Germany, Alaska and Canada. While traveling he makes notes, photographs, and drawings of the empty and frigid landscape. He then returns to his studio to make larger paintings and works on paper, as interpreted by the studies and his memory.
Mark Thompson received the Villiers David Award, 2004, and the Gilchrist-Fisher Award, 2002. His paintings and works on paper have been exhibited internationally including at the Nordic Heritage Museum in Seattle; the Barbican, London; the Florence Trust, London; the Modern Art Oxford, UK; the Galleri Ryvarden and Galleri Formidable in Norway, along with several other exhibits in the U.K., Germany, Lithuania, and Sweden. Mark’s work is included in the Microsoft Art Collection, the Beldham Collection, Government House Collection, UK, and the McGraw Hill collection.
